What foundation should be design for Ten storied Building, Pile or Raft?

In foundation design we generally find out the type of soil and its bearing capacity.

In the design of foundation total weight of the structure should be consider and up to some extend seismic region should be consider mean in which zone the building will stand.

As a rule, for foundation design estimated total load of building should be divided by the soil bearing capacity to get the ratio.

If the ratio is between 0.7-1.0 then raft or mat foundation is the ideal solution with thickness around 100-120 CM thick with two layers of reinforcement top and bottom.

If the ratio is above 1.0 the pile foundation will be recommended depending on the soil strata.
