The type of foundation that transfer the structural load the earth farther down from the surface.

Deep foundation will be considered when the width of entire foundation is less than its depth.

Deep foundation will be considered when soil strata is very soft and unable to bear the structure load. In this case deep foundation will be prefer for stability of the structure. Soil like lose sand, black cotton soil in this case shallow foundation will not be recommended and deep foundation will design for such case.
