What is Foundation? What is the Role of Foundation in Civil Engineering?

The word foundation in engineering means the elements of the structure which connect it to the ground, transferring load from the structure to the ground.

The Purpose of the foundation is to distribute the weight of structure over a large area to avoid overloading the underlying soil possibly cause uneven settlement.

Foundation provide resistance against earthquake, floods, drought, frost heaven, tornados, and wind. It provides level surface to the ground.

In structure foundation provide stability and preventing overloading. It’s also prevented lateral movement of the supported structure.

Foundation mainly classified in Two Types.

1-       Shallow Foundation

2-       Deep Foundation
