About the Author:
Michael Grose obtained his law degree in the United
Kingdom before beginning his legal career in 1993 with an international law
firm in the City of London. He moved to Dubai in 1998 and is now the head of a
major law firm's regional construction and projects practice. As a Gulf
veteran, Michael is well-versed not just in the region's laws, but also in
their application to building contracts and conflicts. Michael routinely evaluates,
advises on, and drafts construction contracts for large projects, exposing him
to the FIDIC suite of contract conditions.
He has prepared adjustments to these criteria to make
them suitable for usage in the Gulf and to address the most frequently encountered
difficulties. Michael has also been involved in other high-profile construction
and technical conflicts in the region. As a result, he has extensive expertise
conducting arbitration in the Gulf, including serving as an arbitrator for the
Dubai International Arbitration Centre. He has represented clients in the
Gulf's domestic courts on countless occasions, working alongside certified
local advocates.
This has entailed representing clients at all phases of
the legal process, from obtaining freezing orders against bank guarantees to
attending court-appointed expert consultations through the implementation of
final judgements. He is also experienced with proceedings in the Dubai
International Financial Centre Courts, having represented a principal contractor
in the first construction case tried in the DIFC Courts.
